I'm a big fan of Player vs. Player (PvP), Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Games (MMORPG). In almost any of these game communities there's a philosophical rift between those that prefer to play cooperatively against the environment (PvE) and avoid playing against other players.

Recently I checked out Pirates of the Burning Sea (http://www.burningsea.com/page/home). On their forums I found this instructional video, which if you're familiar with these PvP-PvE arguments, is fairly amusing. So, I thought I'd share. Here's "PvP School".

I love PvP AND Battle Royale happens to be my favorite movie. :)

Are you going to play Rift? Some of my guildies are playing DCUO right now.

I play some MMOs too (though less than I used to) but I don't like PvP. I mainly solo, but usually that is because I can't be bothered with all the hanging around to find a group. I played Age of Conan on a PvP server, but found that I just got ganked every 5 minutes and couldn't do anything, so I unsubscribed.

I've kinda bailed on WoW for DCUO lately. It's a blast, though the targeting is a bit wonky and the chat interface needs some serious work.

I've kinda had my fill of Fantasy RPG's for the moment, but I've been following Rift's development. I doubt if, I'll be one of the first subscribers.

Recently I've tried Star Trek Online, which has promise, but has a lot of issues to work out. The lack of any open PvP being one of them. Fantastic environment for Trek fans, though.

Tried EVE for a bit. A very deep environment with a vast amount of space. The lack of a "ground" avatar though, leaves me feeling a bit disconnected.

Just started Pirates of the Burning Sea a couple of days ago. So far, I'm liking it. It actually comes close to the feel I had for the old Sid Meirs' Pirates! game.

I tried EVE also. It is fun for a few days. I should try Pirates, though. I was in the DCUO beta, but didn't play past the intro quest. :) Not sure why I didn't care for it. I wish someone would make something like Neocron. It was great! Then the population dwindled so much it wasn't fun anymore.

I'm considering resubbing EQ2 or Aion (after their expansion) for something to do.

I tried EVE as well, but it's just too hard for a newbie to really do anything it seems. The game is really weighted towards long-time players.

Also tried Aion and didn't stay past the free month. It was like WoW but nowhere near as good. Bored the hell out of me.

Can't imagine why you didn't enjoy DCUO, it's the funnest new game I've played in a long while! I even enjoy just looking at the other players characters :D

Granted it's almost impossible for a newbie to successfully PvP against the veterans, but getting cargo thru a PvP area is just as thrilling to me.

STO and Pirates had something like what I've been looking for, Persona and Ship avatars. Both Space/Sea and Ground environments. Actually if, I were a game developer, I'd try to go for the Persona avatar moving within a ship structure, which then operates within a larger environment.

Too early to tell about Pirates, but that video cracked me up. Hopefully the author was parodying both PvP and PvE, 'cause that's how I viewed it. Apparently good advice in it concerning the game, though.

I played Warhammer Age of Reckoning for over a year. I had some good fun PvP-ing with that one.

Guild Wars 2 (http://www.guildwars2.com/en/) is something I might check out in the future, but after Warhammer I kinda had to just stop with the mmo's. I just had to many gripes to justify how much I was playing, which was alot...so I stoped.
