There are always good pranks out on the net on 1st April.

So far I've seen:
The new gmail autopilot (http://mail.google.com/mail/help/autopilot/index.html) feature.

AIG merges with AIG to form AIG (http://pandasthumb.org/archives/2009/04/aig-merges-with.html) biblical banking.

RealClimate (http://www.realclimate.org/index.php/archives/2009/04/farewell-to-our-readers/) accepts denier argument, closes down.

Empedoclean Evolution (http://scienceblogs.com/evolvingthoughts/2009/03/new_work_on_lateral_transfer_s.php) disproves Darwin.

Got more? I have to wonder if the BBC has done a good one - their flying penguins and spaghetti harvest were gems.

You should go to Google's main page and click on the CADIE link. There's a ton of fun stuff to read!

Several years ago, Google announced a new drink based on your DNA. It claimed to make you smarter, a better athlete, a better spouse, etc., based on your genetic code.

I printed up the information (it was designed to look like an ad) and shared it with other teachers in my school. Only 2 science teachers knew it was an April Fool's joke -- everyone else thought it was for real.

I'll never forget the Discover Magazine article about giant naked mole rats living under the Antarctic ice -- they would melt the ice with their body heat right under a penguin and make the penguin fall into their tunnels, where they would eat it!

I'll never forget the Discover Magazine article about giant naked mole rats living under the Antarctic ice -- they would melt the ice with their body heat right under a penguin and make the penguin fall into their tunnels, where they would eat it!Someone (Greg Laden, maybe) reposted that one this year. I put a comment on it:That story actually isn't as implausible as it might seem. After all, every fall snowbirds migrate south, laying iceworm eggs as they go. That white stuff on the ground in the winter is the shells of iceworm eggs, the iceworm larvae having burrowed into the ground to over-winter, emerging in the spring warming as slush puppies. And yeah, it was Laden (http://scienceblogs.com/gregladen/2009/04/new_rodent_species_discovered.php).

TalkRational had a nice in-joke, but I didn't take a screenshot.
