Hi Abe,
Welcome to Secular Cafe
Sorry this 'hello' thread is late, but your posts read like someone who is comfortable with internet forums and I forgot you were a newbie. :o
Anyway, I hope you like it here.

Thank you, I hope I like it here, too. I am sort of a veteran of Internet forums, though mostly a select few.

Hi Abe.
For those who don't know him, Abe is a bit different from your average atheist....
His Atheventures posted on II were compulsive reading - basically he picketed churches with a 'God is Fake' sign and tried to engage the congregation in debate. That takes balls the size of watermelins, and Abe is one of my internet heroes because of it.
He's also very knowledgeable about early Christian history and pretty much any religious topic. It's always worth reading his opinion whether you agree with it or not.
Welcome to SC Abe. I hope you stick around.

You know, for a while I thought I was the only one who believed that.

Good to see you here, Abe. Many of us were at IIDB and remember you well.

Iirc, Abe modified his tactics somewhat, based on critique from his readers. Also, in his tellings about his confrontations, he seemed to have a basic respect for his targets, he didn't seem to be hateful or unreasonable. So, two points in his favor, in my book. Plus, his adventures were just fun to read about.
Abe, do you still engage in that hobby?

Not so much anymore. I did it one more time, just because it was my long-time ambition, at the Temple Square of Salt Lake City, Utah. That was last year. Here it is if you would like to read about it:

It is refreshing to hear you say that I maintained basic respect for the people. I intended to help them, not to abuse them with words. But, it is very easy in this case to get the wrong idea. Humility and respect for people is the way I prefer to communicate most of the time when talking about these issues. What I did was mostly for fun, with only the dimmest hope of changing someone's mind for the better, but it also turned out to be a great experiment and learning experience. I learned a helluva lot about the thinking of Christian church-goers.

I never told you this, but I missed you by - I don't know how much - at one of your picketings in Oregon. I lived not too far away from the one in Hillsboro; drove by it two or three times the morning you were supposed to be there but didn't spot you, and then couldn't make it back later. I was bummed out for a week. :(

That really does seem like a bummer. I would have loved it if we had met. I hope you aren't still bummed out. :P

Thank you. It will stay in the past, except for maybe a few special occasions, here and there.

Yes, it was. I now have six digits past the decimal place.
