Hi all,
I'm a 20 year old guy. Currently working full time as a domiciliary care worker for adults after I failed my A-Levels for drinking too much and sleeping in class! Going back to college this year then hopefully on to university to study either Computer Science or Physics.
Don't know really how to introduce myself without sounding a bit "Im secular", but here goes:
I was a Christian Alter server from age 8. I very much believed in it, prayed every night, all that jazz. Even had aspirations of becoming a catholic priest! When I was about 13 I began questioning my religion and when I was 14 I was pretty much agnostic, though still believed in "god". I think I was 16 when I defined myself as an Atheist, but the doubt had been in my mind all along.
I was pretty much obsessed with philosophy and politics age 16-18 and I have become a little Kirkegaard. My inspiration in life is probably Carl Sagan or Feynman.
Now I would class myself as an existentialist who doesn't give a flying fuck. I want to live my life in my little microcosm, expand the boarders of my microcosm as much as possible, die and be forgotten. I don't want a family when I'm a bit older, I want to be as independent as possible so I can see as much of the world as possible. Besides, I'm a bit gay!
Other points of interest in my little world include:
- Hiking
- Camping
- International Travel
- Poker (Trying to pack this in seriously lost a shed load)
- Drinking (Trying to pack this in too because when I drink I play poker)
- Comedy (Eddie Izzard, George Carlin, Jimmy Carr, South Park etc)
- Gaming (PC, PS3)
- IT and programming (:hitcomputer:)
- Developments in Theoretical Physics and Quantum Theory
And just general run of the mill life stuff.
So yeah, hopefully we shall debate some internet serious business!

Hey there Stephen.
I'm a Liverpudlian too, although I emigrated to Manchester about 20 years ago.
Hope you like it here :)

Emigrate is an apt choice of word, It's only a couple of miles down the M6 but a world away :P

I came close to flunking out of Ga. Tech for excessive partying- back in 1975! I made it through by the skin of my teeth, though. (Physics major.)
I started reading the Bible cover-to-cover right after I turned 14, and before I was 16 I was calling myself an atheist.
I'm still single myself, although I'm not a bit gay! :D
I think you may fit in around here. :)

Thanks,
It's terrible though isn't it? They expect you to be "oh-so" when all you want to do at that age is have a laugh and push limits? Just wait 'till I rage on de-facto education systems!

That's the choice you have to make really. Have fun when you are young but get a shit career; or work hard when you are young and become a rich but bitter and boring middle aged loser.

You can have the best of both, which is my trivial pursit.
Ultimately I am sure to be middle aged and planning a pension which is the personification of modernity.

Welcome!
New season of South Park starts soon :) Does it air the same day in the UK as it does here in the US or do you have to wait longer for it?
And how do you feel about Manchester overtaking Liverpool for the record number of Premiership titles this season? I wish I knew more of you Liverpool folk so I'd be able to rub it in a bit more hehe.

Manchester will fail, trust me. We Scousers are at the tip of a new golden age, just you watch next season.
The king is back.

Any of you lot planning to watch United, about the Busby Babes?
Me? Hell, no, I know nothing about all that. I'm just a Tennant fangirl. (Did I just say that out loud?)

This one is wise beyond his years...

Welcome to the Café, from somewhat further south!
With Billy, that's two (confessed) Scousers here now... Watch your hubcaps, ladies and gentlemen...

Ah, hello Goodchild. So what part of Manchester are you from, then? :)

You can watch your hubcaps all you like mate, come home from work this evening and you'll find your house on bricks
This is the correct joke for someone in my position:
"The mother's from Manchester, the father's from Liverpool, the grandparents are worried that the kids'll grow up too lazy to steal."

Hi Stephen,
Hooray, another Liverpool fan :D
I'm not actually a Scouser though, I started supporting Liverpool as a protest against my family (all Chelsea fans :yuck: ) when I was about 7, and I've stuck by the Mighty Reds ever since. I'm originally from Essex, but now living in the West Midlands, and even though I'm closer to Liverpool, I haven't been to Anfield for a few years now.
Based on what you've said about yourself, I think you'll do just fine here :)

There I was, carefully setting Goodchild up for the "Utd-fans-never-actually-come-from-Manchester" dig, and then I'm totally undermined by the Brummie/Essex girl

And you woulda got me too :D I've never even been to England, but I gotta have some team as favorite, right? So many, many ears ago my fellow football friends and me pick MU as our team and haven't regretted it yet.
In Germany my team is Bayern Munich (second favorite overall), then in Italy it's Internazional. I really don't care much for the teams from any other league.
And I'm kind of a reverse ABU, except it's anyone but Chelsea for me :)

It would be totally inappropriate of me to derail a welcome thread into a football slanging match, so instead I'll just pass on a hearty 'hello' to Goodchild from my adopted sky-blue Mancunian family

Yeah yeah, you got one over on us this last weekend. Maybe after 35 years you'll finally snag some hardware ... but I'll be pulling for Stoke :p
And good one by Liverpool this weekend! Thanks for the help :D The finish to that match was fantastic.

I bet Kenny felt like Fergie at the end of that match, with the ref playing enough time for us to score an equaliser :p
