One of our local pubs has gone "upscale" (or "gastro"). We were going to take a friend there for lunch but were put off by them charging extra for side dishes, like potato or veggies. So we're going somewhere else instead.
Is anyone else put off by this practice? To me it seems greedy to charge extra for side dishes, even if the total meal price doesn't change.
Also, my limited experience with places that do this is that the food is not as good as they pretend it is.

Well, that's common in Britain, too. It's a bit of a ripoff (£2 or more for a little plain rice), but we're used to it.

Almost everything slow pisses me off but the worst are people that get on express lines that really belong on the idiot line. They get all the way to the register and through checkout before realizing that they spent too much and want items removed, then they hunt through their purse for 5 minutes and realize that they don't have enough cash, they can't figure out how the debit card machine works, the clerk helps them, the card is rejected and then they have to head back out to their car to find their checkbook. By then I'm ready to slap them out of my way.
