Watching prog of this name on History Channel right now.
Based on work by Finkelstein and Silberman.
Here is a review of their book, but I'm a bit suspicious of the source. Anything with the word 'theosophical' in it makes my BS meter twitch a bit.

Anyone know anything about whether F and S are any cop?

Jolly good. Got the repeat an hour later, so I'll let sky+ work it's magic and watch it in the morning.

I have not read it but I have seen it here in the library (I work in the library at Penn State) and it has some pretty positive reviews from Dr. Baruch Halpern he is the Chaiken Family Chair in Jewish Studies here.
I know people who have had him for class and think very highly of him. Both believers and non-believers. If he says a book is worth the read, I would read it with an open mind even if I knew going it that is seemed I did not agree with it. Take that for what it is worth as a comment on Finkelstein and Silberman by association with his recommendation.
I think it's an excellent book. It's mainly about archaeology and how it does or does not confirm the OT.

It's a good book, straight sensible history and archaeology.

I've got this book too. It's an excellent read. It describes what we know happened, what we know didn't happen, and the evidence that leads us to that conclusion. There is also some professional informed speculation as to what probably happened, given the evidence we have.
The authors are well respected professionals, they know the archeology of Israel's history, and are responsible for a good bit of original research.
