I'm exploring, what must the world be like if I both am evolved and have free will. In such a world the genome too could have free will, and could be the intelligent designer behind evolution. This fits nicely in the yawning gap between the Modern Synthesis and Christian Creationism. I publish at www.evolvedself.com and www.takeondarwin.com.

Hi Shaun, welcome to the board. Always good to see someone new with a different take.

We rather discourage getting into discussions on intro threads, especially on subjects where feelings often run strong and deep, and people sometimes become....excitable.

Free will is one of those topics like gun control and circumcision which sometimes develop more heat than light, as can be seen in our current thread on the subject. Perhaps you might like to join in there.

Then again, you might want to start your own thread about the subject in an appropriate forum.

Feel free in either case, and again welcome:)

Hi, shaun! Why don't you put some of your ideas down in a thread in Life, the Universe, and Everything?

Welcome to the Cafe, Shaun!

Is it bad of me that I keep thinking of Shaun of the Dead whenever I see your username?

Welcome!

In this world, could the will of one such as a human be at odds with the will of the genes inside him- or her- self... or do the genes within us blindly and unwittingly carry out the will of the safely-isolated and ultra-intelligent original megagenome? ....and can we rebel against his will for us?
:dunno:

Has this topic a thread yet?

Didn't Dawkins cover that in 'Selfish Gene'?

My copy has either been lent to someone or has fallen down behind other books in my bookcase, else I'd quote the relevant passage.

I don't know. I would, however, be interested in finding out whether or not every other thing with will eventually realized that the ultra-intelligent original megagenome was right all along -and that being subject to its loving will would end conflict and free up the time they would otherwise spend crying "Poppycock!" for wonderful creative endeavors.

:p

Anyway, OP -it's an interesting thought.
