View Full Version : Movie Lines Game.
Very simple game, pick a quote from a film and then everyone gets to guess what film it's from. Feel free to give clues or chat about films mentioned :) Whoever gets the answer correct gets to pick the next quote.
If the winner doesn't post a new line within 24 hours of his winning post, the first one on after that gets to post one.
You do need to wait for confirmation of your win if we are If you're 100% confident that you have the correct movie, but egg on your face if you claim victory, post a new quote and are wrong :D

Batman, 1989. Jack Nicholson as the Joker spoke the line.
Here's one:
"Let's get outta here. "
(Sorry, trick question. I read somewhere that that line is on the scripts of 80% or so of all the movies ever made.)
Here's a real one:
"Good evening, Miss McKenna. You don't know me -- but you will."
My mom's favourite film "somewhere in time"
I think I'd discovered the problem with this game. It rhythms with oogle...

The only thing 'wrong' with it, IMO, is the typical 90s representation of what computers do ... the vast cyberscape that you fly through and such. It's so cheesy, but everyone was doing it so what the heck :D But like you say, it was the story that was interesting.

The only thing I can really think of that would lead to a poor review is that the relationship between Scott and Ramona is never really developed. Basically he likes her after seeing her one time, she decides to like him back after a bit, then he fights for her. It's the one bad spot in an otherwise thoroughly entertaining and well-done film.

Okay, 24 hours plus and no takers. I should be ashamed of myself. The line was from Snow White and the Three Stooges.
Okay, next one, and this should be MUCH easier:
"Now you listen to me. I'm an advertising man, not a red herring. I've got a job, a secretary, a mother, two ex-wives and several bartenders that depend upon me, and I don't intend to disappoint them all by getting myself slightly killed."
STILL no takers? Okay, here's a hint; the line was spoken by one Archibald Leach.

Movie lines is a hard game to keep going - either you know it off the top of your head, or you have to Google it. If everybody's seen the same movies and knows all the lines, it goes too quick; if nobody's seen the movie, it dies. Not your fault.
Perhaps we should relax the No Google Rule to... Google OK after 24 hours in order to continue the game. How does that sound?

I'm starting to think people don't want their quotes guessed, as lots of these are so freaking obscure IMO. Now we're getting quotes from over 70 years ago :D (yeah, I had to google it).
I mean, play it how you want, it's not my place to tell you what you can quote or not ... but if i'm going to get any enjoyment out of this game then it'd be nice if the quotes were from movies that are reasonably well known. Of course, at the same time it's nice to learn about movies we may never have heard of and check them out (like Bedazzled).

Fair enough; I just thought it was a good line, and I watched it on DVD the other day with my client. Alfred Hitchcock's Secret Agent, speaker was John Gielgud. Pretty good picture for one of the early talkies.

From that same character:

DanB
09 Sep 2011, 03:04 PM
Same film. A 2005, romantic comedy, starring Wil Smith and Eva Mendes.
Wil Smith's character voice over at the beginning of the film:
"Basic principles: no woman wakes up saying, "God, I hope I don't get swept off my feet today!" Now, she might say, "This is a really bad time for me," or something like, "I just need some space," or my personal favorite, "I'm really into my career right now." You believe that? Neither does she.
You know why? Because she's lying to you, that's why. You understand me? Lying! It's not a bad time for her. She doesn't need any space. And she may be into her career, but what she's really saying is, "Uh, get away from me now," or possibly, "Try harder, stupid." But which one is it? Sixty percent of all human communication is nonverbal, body language; thirty percent is your tone. So that means that ninety percent of what you're saying ain't coming out of your mouth.
Of course she's going to lie to you! She's a nice person. She doesn't want to hurt your feelings. What else she going to say? She doesn't even know you... yet. Luckily, the fact is that just like the rest of us, even a beautiful woman doesn't know what she wants until she sees it, and that's where I come in. My job is to open her eyes.
Basic principles: no matter what, no matter when, no matter who... any man has a chance to sweep any woman off her feet. He just needs the right broom."
