Should we be alarmed at the rise of fundamental jedi-ism amongst public servants?

Very cute.
Last year, brothers Barney and Daniel Jones founded the UK Church of the Jedi - which offered sermons on the Force, light sabre training, and meditation techniques.
Even before last year, many people in the UK were putting "Jedi" as their religion on census forms. I was under the impression that it had started out as a slightly tongue-in-cheek way of conveying a rather serious message: "My religion (or lack thereof) is none of your damned business."
I remember an article several years ago saying that Jedi outnumbered Jews in the UK, according to the (then-)latest census.

I wonder if they use funny handshakes to recognise co-believers and give them preferential treatment.

They should definitely agitate for some Tony-Blair-style faith-based schools.

Now we know why the majority of police in Britain don't need to carry guns, they carry lightsabers!

I just joined it (them). Downloading my info pack.
As prayer demonstarbly makes no difference to the outcome of anything, and subscription to and attendance at, any religious organization makes no difference to the morality of any person; I may as well be a Jedi.
I think of it as Padwan's Wager.

Do they have their own version of Satanists, who voluntarily embrace the Dark Side of the Force? :D

From the wiki link I provided (referring to 2001 census results):
In Scotland 14,052 people stated that Jedi was their current religion (14,014 "Jedi", 24 "Jedi Other" and 14 "Sith") and 2,733 stated that it was their religion of upbringing (2,682 "Jedi", 36 "Jedi Other" and 15 "The Dark Side").

Of course it's completely unthinkable that masses of people could adopt a religion born of science fiction. Xenu bless. . .

That would be a typical Scottish way of saying "none of your fucking business!" :D

They are the ones who police demonstrations, and beat shit out of those who happen to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.
