I know I may not know much about physics, but I recognize and respect the great minds behind it. Unfortunately, Mr. Hawking, one of those great minds, is seriously ill :(

Professor Stephen Hawking, the world-renowned physicist and cosmologist who has motor neuron disease, has been taken to hospital by ambulance after falling “very ill”, the University of Cambridge announced...

Hopefully he makes a recovery and continues his work.

It's pretty sad to see such a great mind go, but then he's been on borrowed time for 4 decades or so.

I'm glad we had the technology to keep him around as long as we did.

It amazes me what his mind is like.

the talk radio idiot last night made fun of him for taking 3 days to write a 15 minute presentation. :banghead:

Let that DJ spend 40 years typing with near total paralysis, and then see how he feels about it.

Who was it who said: if you want me to speak for 3 hours, I am ready today. if you want me to speak for 15 minutes, give me 3 days ?

Asking Hawking to write a 15 minute presentation for the layman on the expansion and contraction of the universe? I'm impressed it took less that a week!

woo hoo! I rolled a success on my googlefu! (after a series of critical fails)

Churchill.
If you want me to speak for 2 hours I can come tomorrow... if you want me to speak for two minutes... I'll need 2 weeks to prepare…

Let that DJ spend 80 years typing with all his abilities intact, and he still wouldn't be able to come up with anything as interesting as SH could throw off in a 3 second conversational aside.

reports state that he is on the mend and expected to make a full recovery.

LONDON (AP) — Cambridge University says the family of physicist Stephen Hawking expects him to recover fully from a chest infection that has left him hospitalized.

The university issued a statement Tuesday saying that Hawking 'was being kept in observation' at Addenbrooke's hospital,

The statement says Hawking's family was 'looking forward to a full recovery.'

It's probably far simpler for the hyperintelligent, alien life form that inhabits his "body" to keep up the guise for as long as we accept it.

I've always considered it something just short of a miracle that Hawkins is still alive. I've never known anyone with ALS to live more than a few years after diagnosis. He is such as amazing person, not just his intelligence, but his unusual strength in the face of adversity.

Never watched that actually. Electric Dreams just had a certain charm for the time it came out :)
