Hello all!

My name is Angelique, but I am usually called Angel by most I know :) I am a 29 years old, but probably younger at heart, and I have registered to this forum because I always seem to want to engage in conversations, debates and discussions and appear to have exhausted (annoyed) the people around me :D I am hoping to find some friends here with the same desire for knowledge and (personal) development as I have, someone to challenge my intellect and broaden my horizons. I gather this would be the right place for that :)

Feel free to approach me, to ask me questions or to start a conversation, it's what I am here for! Looking forward to getting to know you all :)

Regards,
Angel

Hi Angel, I think many of us can relate to annoying others with our desire to discuss things in depth. ;) That's why we come here and annoy each other!

Welcome!

Hi Angel, welcome to SC...

Feel free to have a look around and jump into discussions when the notion takes you.

We're mostly friendly but do have occasional grouches (or just people in a grouchy mood):D Don't take it too seriously and just enjoy yourself - it's a strangely addictive place to be

Hi Angel, nice to meet ya. I'm 29 too, and I still watch cartoons, so I hope that makes me young at heart too.
NeilStone's right, I think this is a strangely addictive place to be (in a good way!). I joined just to make one comment on something and I'm still here more than 18 months later (has it been that long?). We do have a 10 Facts About Me thread if you feel like chipping in, where is it..... ah, here (http://www.secularcafe.org/showthread.php?t=978&highlight=facts&page=9)is it. Or you can use this thread, 'tis up to you.
Can I ask where you call home?

Compliment alert! Compliment alert!

SS, Ozy is saying you have wisdom and maturity beyond your years....:D

Ozy, if that's not what you were meaning, lets not shatter SS's illusion...;)

No reason to get excited*.

No portrait pic involved. :D

*My age can be inferred from this quotation, but I don't keep it secret anyway. ;)

Oh wow, thanks for the very warm welcome everyone :) I have trolled forums before but it appears to be lively and active and friendly here, so I think I will feel right at home!

Silly S, I don't really have a simple answer to your question :D I currently live in Denmark, been here for the past 5 years. While I have learned Danish, for the past 5 years my primary language has been English, and would consider myself more or less fluent in it by now. I was born and raised in the Netherlands, but my parents were Egyptian emigrants that moved to the Netherlands 15 years before I was born. Where do I call home? All three to some degree I think! Actually the more accurate answer would be that I am a world citizen, as the English language has become part of who I am now as well. I love being multilingual/multicultural, it is an enrichment of life that I feel blessed to have.

Once again, thank you all for the warm welcome, and I will be sure to check out the thread on 10 facts about ourselves :D

You rather remind me of me. You are a Euro with roots that go all sorts of places.
My Dad's parents moved here from Canada in the 20's. My Mom's parents were descended from poor Irish trash that moved here during the bad old days.

I've never had to learn a new language, though. Both of my parents grew up in downtown Gary, Indiana, USA. They both learned to speak USonian. But the cultures were very different.

Glad you've joined us.

Hi Tom :)

Yes I can certainly relate to belonging to very different cultures. It's cool that you stay so aware of that even when it's been more than a generation ago in your case. I love that about Americans! Europe has become a meltingpot as well, which I think is great, but there is a much 'newer' feel to it. We are still figuring out how to mix and match the elements of the different cultures we belong to. It's quite a rewarding experience though! :)
