Hey there RW

Should we call you Max? ;)

I think you'll be in good company here if you're a sci-fi fan (as per the '10 Facts...' thread).

Thanks for the welcome, Silly S.!

Calling me RW for short is fine. I took my name because of my job, not the movie. As you probably already saw, I'm on the road 4 days a week for business flying around the USA and sometimes Mexico. More rarely, Canada.

The job is fun, so I won't complain about living out of a suit case. It does allow me the opportunity to collect a lot of those little shampoo bottles and bars of soap. I haven't had to buy either on 20 years.

Thanks for the welcome and the comment, Goodchild. Yes, that is the order of my preference. When I was in the third grade, a teacher assigned a book report and gave a list of recommended books. Either the books I was interested in were already checked out or they held no interest for me. A friend recommended Heinlein's "Have Space Suit, Will Travel". I was hooked immediately and read everything by him the library had. Later I started buying his books and, at one time, had everything he'd ever written. I read "Stranger in a Strange Land" when I was 14. My mom glanced through it and had a conniption, but my dad settled her down. :)

My first Heinlein was "Space Cadet", from the school library as well. My next was "Rocket Ship Galileo". It wasn't until after high school that I really discovered the rest of his work beyond the 'juveniles'.

When I was about 16 I discovered Asimov from a friend, who loaned me "Foundation's Edge". It fascinated me but there was so much I didn't get due to not having read the books before it that it was years before I started over at the beginning. And I'm so glad I did, it's one of the best sci-fi series ever.

Welcome, Road Warrior! Do you fly yourself, or take commercial transport?

Welcome from a lifelong sf fan. :) I've been a member of the Science Fiction Book Club since 1968, off and on, and although I've never been active in the world of fandom, I can hold my own with most trufans. I can't say I've read everything Heinlein, Asimov, and Clarke ever wrote, but I've read the majority of the works of all three. Big fan of Herbert, David Drake, and many others, too.

Foundation was an excellent series, but I started with his juvenile fiction then went to his short stories. That led to his science books which I also enjoyed immensely.

Drake is new to me, but I've read most of the Dune series. Nowadays most of my reading is confined to newspapers. :(

I still have some books such as Larry Niven's Mote in God's Eye and Ringworld but haven't read them in years.

Fly myself. I'm a Captain for a regional airline flying the Embraer 145 5O seat passenger airliner:
