This might fit better into a history forum, if we had one, but it fits here, too:
Decoding antiquity: Eight scripts that still can't be read (http://www.newscientist.com/article/mg20227106.000-decoding-antiquity-eight-scripts-that-still-cant-be-read.html?full=true)
Some of these I knew about, and some not.
It's sort of amazing that Etruscan is still on that list.

That's pretty cool. I would think by now we would have some clue about languages that had been around so long. I guess we need a few more Rosetta stones, huh?

I like that there are still things to be discovered and teased out for future generations. Why should we get all the fun? ')

Vinca (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vin%C4%8Da_signs) would surely merit mention.

It's sort of amazing that Etruscan is still on that list.Emperor Claudius I is alleged to have compiled an Etruscan/Latin dictionary (in some versions: a dictionary and an explanatory grammar), which is unfortunately lost to us. I would not be surprised if researchers did this :bang: every time they think about this loss. Villa of the Papyri (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Villa_of_the_Papyri) is pretty much our last hope to find it.

I'm worried about my mind, since that sentence led me to this

which led to this
