A dozen or so, according to this (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/08/17/man-carrying-semi-automat_n_261279.html).
The Associated Press is now reporting that there were actually about a dozen armed people among the protesters in Phoenix.

My guess is they want to make sure the nigger knows his place. How long before one of them brings a noose?

To be fair, I think it probably has more to do with their irrational fear that Obama wants to take away their guns. Whenever a Democrat is elected president, gun sales go way up because some gun lovers on the right actually believe any powerful Democrat is a threat to the 2nd amendment. I'm married to a gun toting liberal who has discussed this with a local gun shop owner. You'd think anyone in the gun industry would be big supporters of Democrats. They are always so good for business.

I will admit that you know more about the "gun culture" than I do. To me, it seems like a not-so-thinly veiled threat of violence, rather than a celebration or assertion of 2nd amendment rights.

Wow.

The reporter said he saw guns being carried among a group of Obama supporters as well. And one man, the man in the video carrying an AR-15, was a black man.

Carrying an AR-15? Fuck, the NRA is turning us into the tribal areas of Pakistan. Carrying an AR-15? If I saw someone walking down my street carrying an AR-15 I would be dialing 911 as fast as my middle-aged fingers could go. What kind of fucked up nut case walks around carrying an AR-15?

Since Arizona is a carry state, I doubt people disarmed themselves before attending an outdoor Bush rally. But, those cases never made headline news.

This is just another example of calculated, pick-and-choose reporting.

And some white people probably call 911 if they see a black man walking in their lily white neighborhood. Give me a fucking break.:bang:

Man am I in a bad mood today........

Gotta love AZ. Even though it has Snottsdale with it's mega rich semi-retarded gentry, it really does embody the spirit of a wild west.:)

My son has a concealed carry permit, and wears his Glock almost all the time. And is an ardent Obama supporter. He'd show up at a meeting with one, because he almost never takes it off unless he's at class (it's illegal on campus).

Some people just like to show off, that's all.....

However, I, personally, would freak out standing at a political meeting next to someone with THAT thing strapped over his shoulder!

This reminds me of a Hunter S Thompson quip:

I live in St. Louis, usually one of the top 5 cities in the country for crime. Most of the people I know, most of my neighbors, would love realistic gun laws, requirements for permits for anyone who wants to own a gun, laws against carrying guns in the city, and we voted down issuing carry permits. Most would like to see mandatory sentencing for anyone using a gun in a crime; 20 additional year, no parole, no early out. But the NRA threatened a lawsuit, the Governor signed a bill anyway that allowed concealed weapons, and the crime rate stays high.

The claim that guns make a nation safer are pure, unadulterated bullshit. The most heavily armed places in the world, the tribal areas of Pakistan, Iraq, Afghanistan, are lawless, violent places.

But fuck, it will never change. We love violence and worship guns, and the insane hugely outnumber the sane.

Don't Forget the Guns (http://www.lyricstime.com/cheryl-wheeler-don-t-forget-the-guns-lyrics.html)

Now let's get the kids and pack up the car
Take that vacation we've been waiting for
Drive across this country leave our worries far behind
Singin' four-part harmony to "sweet adeline"

`Cause I got these books and maps from triple "A"
We'll visit friends and sites along the way
So bring the bikes and toys and diapers
Pay the neighbor's son
And call to stop the mail and, honey,
Don't forget the guns

Now don't forget the guns you know exactly what I mean
Bring the pistols, bring the uzi and the old AR-15
We don't look for trouble but by golly if we're in it
It's nice to know we're free to blow nine hundred rounds a minute

Notice how MSNBC cropped the footage and implied that it was a white racist carrying the guns.

Here's the interview with the gun-toting 'racist'.

Now, agree with Chris' views or not, this is a clear example of MSNBC spinning and distorting.

No.

I thought my post was concise and clear - MSNBC intentionally edited the video so that you did not see that the gun toter was a black man, then played the race card. The OP video, which has been taken down from youtube, (gee, I wonder why), shows the un-cropped version of a black man carrying the guns. Bottom line - it had nothing to do with racism against Obama, but MSNBC wanted to paint it that way.

The strains and mental gymnastics some of you go through, in order not to see what MSNBC has done, is on par with the same cogitative dissonance of young earth creationists.

Amazing.

Actually, the picture I saw made it fairly obvious the guy with the gun was black.

So? I didn't paint it as a racist thing. I just see it as a gun nut thing, and they come in every color, I'm sure.

I have nothing against owning guns, but bringing something as flagrant as an AR-15 to a political speech (yes, I know it's legal in Az, I used to live there) is still a stupid thing to do.

My point stands also, that there would have been a huge flap if this guy had shown up at a Shrub rally (did shrub ever visit Az?).

That's the precise reaction MSNBC was going for.

Carrying the AR-15 was a bit over the top. However, to make it a racist thing was flat-out wrong.

Really, 'cause everybody knows gun-toting rednecks just loves them their newly elected black president...you know, the one who isn't even an American, pals around with terrorists, and is a closet Muslim looking to introduce Sharia law to kindergarten kids...
