My first time since I was little at grandma's cabin. She can't remember how (93 years old) but I have found lots of recipes on the internet and my dill is doing great. Wish me luck.

Good luck! and I recommend wearing moisturizer on your cheeks. My cheeks always burned from the vinegar.

So my hubby open a jar and they are tangy and salty but not very dilly. I might not have used enough. Unless they need to sit more.

Probably needed more. How much did you use?
we use a flower in each quart...

They are refrigerator pickles so we are giving the other jars a week or so.

oh! well, yeah!
I thought they had been canned.
Silly me, I meant to ask your process.
mmmm... yeah... they'll take a bit
did you add garlic? mmmmmmm
I'm assuming you made a crock/fermented pickle? My favorite!

It was garlic, onion, dill and peppercorns. Then brine was water, vinager and kosher salt. I wanted to add a grape leaf but we couldn't get our hands on any. They are good just not dilly.

This is my first time so I was expecting some problem. I may can some tomatos before summer is over. Our plants are just about empty.

oh man... you've made me want pickled onions now.
Proper ones, like my grandfather used to make, not the inspid soggy crap they sell in the shops.
Bigger than golfballs. Crunchy as if they were fresh. Malt vinegar that would strip paint, loads of birdseye chillies, bay and peppercorns.
(hnm. I wonder if rosemary would work)
Sulphurous, fiery and very likely flammable.
god DAMMIT I'm going to have to take another go at making some.

I normally don't like hot stuff but I love onion on grilled cheese and those sound like they would make an interesting addition.

Give the dill more time.

Toss some really really hot peppers in there to, peppered pickles are FANTASTIC!
