so you're stuck on a deserted island, and you have nothing good to eat. what would be the one meal you would be dreaming about?

mine's a no brainer - my grandma's fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, black eyed peas, and peach cobbler for dessert.

a little slice of home, family, and memories all tied up into one.

shoot - now i'm hungry :D

ok, who's next?

i tried to edit the title - i live in a desert so i guess i thought you could have a desert island as opposed to a deserted one ;) lol

I've been hungry, and not just missed-a-meal hungry, but five-days-in-the-hills-with-nothing-to-eat-but-a-book-on-native-edible-vegetation hungry. Cattail roots, wild onions and pinyon nuts don't go very far. The dream meals cycled, but I remember that pizza never made the cut.

When my jaw was wired shut and I got fed up (;)) with power shakes and fruit juices, and my wife had cooked up an aromatic meal, I said I'll take a plate. She looked askance at me but delivered. I took the roast beef and sauteed onions, mashed potatoes and gravy, peas and a fresh roll with butter, added more gravy, and scraped the plate into a blender, and sucked dinner through a straw. Pure bliss.

Stuck on a desert isle with no ready source of iron I'd be on my anemic death bed (palm leaves, I guess) in fairly short order so I'd be craving a sirloin steak with mushrooms, broccoli and a green salad with strawberries, gorgonzola and crumbled walnuts...nice balsamic dressing.

I'd be more worried about what to drink than what to eat.

Are there coconuts, and do I have a good knife, or preferably a machete? A lighter? What?

I guess, if really hungry, sushi shellfish might be the best meal ever.

When my jaw was wired shut and I got fed up (;))

Oh I know this is off topic, but what reason did you have to have your jaw wired shut for? Was it dental?

My nephew had his jaw broken a few years back and he had to do the whole pureed food thing. It sounds miserable. From what I understand it's constant hunger until your stomach shrinks.

A boat sandwich.

ETA: to be clear, I don't mean some kind of long roll with a meat filling.

Two pieces of bread with a large ocean-going yacht inbetween.

Lamb jahlfrezi with pilau rice and a side of bombay aloo and saag paneer, a couple of poppaddoms with pickles and all that, and a peshwari naan. Mango Kulfi to follow.

I read that Shackelton's men as a whole dreamt about sweets.

They thought they would dream about meat... but they didn't.

eta: Maybe I'd substitute palak paneer for the saag paneer though.

Rhubarb pie and lasagna? heh heh, It might actually be good, but my stomach is flip-flopping just thinking about it.

I could go for some lasagna and sides of various vegetables though. Maybe a glass of wine to wash it down, probably no dessert thanks!

Probably a nice rare chargrilled steak, a big fluffy baked potato with sour cream, a green salad, and a glass of a big peppery shiraz. Proper chocolate mousse for dessert. (ie, no cream or fillers, just made with eggs & dark chocolate & a spot of liqueur).

I'm assuming I live off fresh tropical fruit, taro, coconuts and sashimi, so red meat, spuds and processed stuff would be the rarity. And chocolate.

Cheese, any sort, lots of it. Maybe a nice toasted cheese?
