Either the very interesting book by Daniel Dennett, or the BBC2 programme last night presented by Andrew Marr (http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00j0c54).

Anybody except else watch it? (except Oolon, because I texted him about it)

Unfortunately I only got to see the first half of it, up to the Huxley-Wilberforce debate. But Andrew Marr is excellent, making even stuff I already knew backwards thoroughly absorbing.

(Thanks for the text Ray. I was already recording it and will have the series onto DVD straight away!)

They somewhat pissed me off by showing Hitler in the intro -- their point apparently being how Darwin's ideas have often been misused to justify the use of force, genocide, etc.

I saw it, alhough since I was almost braindead from lack of sleep, I probably missed the finer points.

I am in love with Andrew Marr. He is very bright but has the simple touch.

I didn't know about Price and his tragic suicide. Does anyone here know anything about his life and work? Unfortunately the TV treatment was very superficial.

I saw it, and also the programme before, in which someone re-created some of the experiments Darwin did to provide supporting evidence.

Just a reminder for Brit members at least, who might have missed them, that BBC iplayer is your friend. Actually, I haven't checked that they are available, but would be surprised were they not.

I have the Darwin's Garden programmes on DVD since they are part of the OU course that I'm doing.

The iPlayer is your friend except if it's for something you wanted to record to keep... and as long as you don't mind watching TV on your PC. Not knocking it, but it pisses me off that so many digital channels have +1 options and repeat stuff constantly (you can catch each episode of Deal or No Deal about five times across the day), yet the three main channels only give you the one chance, then it's fingers crossed it'll get repeated.

That's why, when I bought my dvd recorder, I got one with both a hard drive and a dvd writer, so I can put the things I know I want to keep down to dvd, and if I record something to watch, I stick it on the hard drive, retaining the option of dubbing it over to dvd later, if it looks worth keeping.

Mine's an HDD/DVDR with VHS too. I reviewed it extensively here (http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=305617). It's probably an old, out of date model by now already, but I can recommend Pioneers in general, as my DVD player / home cinema is one too.
