I hesitated about where to post this. But a lot of it is about politics, so I thought that perhaps this was the right forum. I don't know what people think about Vidal. My own opinion is that he is not as important as he thinks he is, but he is a stimulating gadfly. It is quite a long article, but worth reading in full, so I won't quote from it.

I meant to thank you for the article earlier. I have always enjoyed the political essays of Gore Vidal, but it does seem as if he's allowing his vivid imagination to carry him away. I can't imagine that Obama will be removed from office by a military coup. That mimics something some of the fringe nuts on the right have been saying. I'm afraid that it's much more likely that Obama will allow the generals to manipulate him into sending more troops to Afghanistan and we'll be there for a very long time.

While I'm disappointed with Obama, I also can't remember any other president in my lifetime having to deal with as many complex problems as he currently faces. Additionally, he has the kooks on the right that are relentless in their criticisms of every single thing he does. Considering all that, I have a bit of compassion for the guy and his family. I'm also impressed at how well he seems to multitask when compared to our prior leader. :D I don't know. Maybe we expect way too much from our leaders.
