The low birthrate and shrinking population have also featured heavily in a new set of worries over Japan’s sovereign debt — the monumental pile of public borrowing that amounts to nearly 190 per cent of GDP. The debt manageable so long as Japan’s economy continues to grow. The concern is that an ever-shrinking number of Japanese youngsters will ultimately buckle under the weight of what their parents’ government borrowed.

I wonder what it sounds like when educated Asians imitate crude people speaking Afrikaans. Is there a written form of that?

Interesting idea. We have a very large Chinese population group here in ZA, but I don't recall ever hearing any of them speaking Afrikaans.

I have a biker buddy who is half caucasian/chinese. His nickname is "Hey you" on the motorcycling forums we frequent. The funny thing is, due to his part chinese heritage, he is now officially classified as part of the black economic empowerment "group", and so his nickname is now unofficially "Hey wena!", which is a sort of exclamation of incredulity or surprise in Zulu, which means "Hey you!".

He LOOKS white as the driven snow, of course, which is part of the joke. :D
