I just moved into a new house. Last night, I discovered something left behind by the previous owner. I've got this game going on Facebook too.

Anyone care to take guess what it might be? Only yes or no questions.

You cannot put it in your mouth.
It is considered valuable by most people.
It is common to many homes, but not most.

Hint: The real mystery of how I managed to miss it on my 3 pre-move in tours!
My house is smallish, and the object is not.

Is it involved in the preparation of food?

Christina

Does it need anything else to go with it to make it useful?

Is it a fireplace or something to heat the home up with?

Considering its getting colder in your corner of the world now, you might have only glanced over it without actually registering it previously?

That's a good guess because that happened to me with this house. It was such a mess when we looked at it that I missed the wood stove insert in the fireplace.

It does not provide heat, and has nothing to do with food preparation.

It cannot fit in a suitcase.

Hmm - anything "built-in" typically has to be left for the new owner.

Is it a waterbed? But I think you would have noticed that.

Cool - can you play?

Matty

cool. Now get it checked out to make sure it has no woodworm. Really. Old pianos are notorious for it and if you have other wood, it can spread.

I once got to take a fire axe to an old piano we bought cheap on the off chance at a house clearance, but it was riddled and the guy who disposed of it for us said it was very common. (It was fun to hack the thing apart with an axe mind, great tension relief:)

If you open up the lid you'll be able to see any obvious worm, but failing that of you drop the cash on having it checked out and/or tuned at some point the Tuner will be able to tell you quite a bit more about it.

Assuming its alright (and it looks in pretty decent nick i reckon) Thats cool as beans though. You gonna play it?

FWIW google fu says It looks like most Krydner upright pianos that are still in circulation date from the early 1900's and seem to go for 1- 1.5K.

eww, worms. Now I'm seriously grossed out.

I took lessons as a kid, but remember very little. I figured I'd tinkle a bit, try to relearn a little.

Thanks for the advice on worm inspection. I'm going to have to work up some nerve to do that!

you wont see the worms themselves (despite the name they are beetle larva anyway IIRC) but if you see the holes, you might wanna get it treated or get rid.

Um...I'm actually not sure! It is in rec room beyond the laundry room, in the basement. I had been in that room on at least one of the tours, and simply didn't make note of it.

I've seen no evidence of wormholes. It's a kimball, for which means diddley to me. I'm still too busy taking care of other matters to do anything with it. Right now my priorities are cleaning and acquiring GOOD furniture cheaply..something which is a lot of fun, but time-consuming.

I'm quite happy with my decision to move! I never thought I'd leave a place where I'd been nearly 20 years so quickly, but I'm glad I did!
