My Dad has often told me the story of what he and my Mom were doing on that day.
It was a Sunday, and they had driven up from New York to visit some friends, a married couple, in Connecticut. It was the afternoon, and Mom and Dad, who were engaged, went for a hike in the woods. When they came back their friends told them what had happened.
The next day, President Roosevelt asked for a declaration of war on Japan, Germany and Italy. (Remember, WWII had already begun in August, 1939, more than two years before.)
