Does anyone know where I can find a site where I can download the game of Risk that has an option for using UK rules? I'm willing to pay a fee to get it, if I have to.

I'm aware of the Shockwave version of Risk, but it only uses US rules. :(

When you turn in cards in UK rules, the number armies you'd get are based on set trade-in values instead of ascending trade-in values in the US rules. Values are as follows: Infantry-4, Cavalry-6, Cannon-8, One of each-10.

I prefer the UK rules.

I've found an online and open-source version of Risk:

yura.net Domination (http://domination.sourceforge.net/)

Its creators renamed it Domination to avoid copyright problems, but "risk" continues to appear in some of the internal info.

It's possible to play it online. One player becomes the host and their game instance becomes the server; the other players connect by entering the appropriate IP address when joining.

Its fans have created a lot of maps for it; I've just now thought of creating a San Francisco Bay map for it.

I loved this game generals with 5 stars really can rule the world.

IMO I'd buy the gold versions of Civ4

They have infinite mods and no doubt someone's written a mod for Risk. PTW.

Looks rather cute, with its animations, though I'd have to run it in VMWare or WINE.

In any case, I've been playing Domination with its AI's, which I name with various name themes, like a certain family of messageboards, Facebook games, and RnR lulzers.

Looks interesting. What kind of rules does it use? US or UK rules? Or does it provide an option for both?

I actually bought the game to play with friends recently (how sad am I!?) and they've changed the format of it. It seemed from my store rummagings in London that you can no longer buy the original (US or UK) version of the game and they've invented a whole new utterly pants set of rules...

I may be wrong but I did some research...

First, one can play all-AI games of Domination; I don't know if one can do that with Risk II. One can watch the players go at each other. I like to name them after members of the RnR lulz brigade and imagine them slugging it out with each other.

The cards options are:

Increasing - US rules
Fixed - UK rules

Here's the algorithm in the fixed-card case:

3 infantry: 4
3 cavalry: 6
3 cannon: 8
All different, no wildcards: 10
2 infantry, 1 wildcard: 4
2 cavalry, 1 wildcard: 6
2 cannon, 1 wildcard: 8
All different, 1 wildcard: 10
2 wildcards: 10
3 wildcards: 12

From the source code: src.zip/risk/engine/core/RiskGame.java
public int trade(Card card1, Card card2, Card card3)

I had to look in the source code because it wasn't documented anywhere else.

Domination is freely downloadable, source code and all.

Thanks Loren, I'll definitely check it out!

Another way you can name the six sides is as follows: The 70, RnR lulz kids, Big Scientists, Groupthink Staff, Atheist Activists and CF Retards. Which faction will dominate in the Great Board War?!
