Welcome, welcome, my very good friend!

I bet there's a lot here who remember when you posted all in italics.

Welcome Ronin. :) Now, it's your turn in the barrel! (too bad we don't have anyone like Mad Kally to make that kind of introduction anymore ;))

Welcome, Ronin. :D

Jobar, thanks for the invite...yes, everyone, he is the guilty party...I'll go wet the noodles. Is it still thirty lashes for disturbing the peace?

Goldie, you're fine as ever. Life good up that way?

Redshirt, I miss me some Mad Kally to be sure and hope she made it through okay. As chaotic a mind she had at the worst of times, she was the first I ever met that recognized a problem...and simply stepped out.

Hey, how come this barrel smells of elderberries?

BioBeing and Brother Daniel!

I'm guessing this will be a good place to lean back and put feet up on the table, after all.

...

...

...

Well, that's enough of that.

So, any skirmishes here to speak of yet?

Hi Ronin! I can't be as mad as Kally, although I'm trying. I think missus_gumby did us a nice barrel back then. We'll have to work on a new one. Good to have you here. :)

I'm still trying to figure out if I know you. I recognize the name Ronin and I vaguely recall someone named Steve changing their name to something else during the Great Unpleasantness at IIDB. Are you the Steve that was a police officer?

And still is. :)

We need more like him. Many, many, many more.

(And that's both IRL, and in the Secular Cafe!)

Yep - I remember a very interesting conversation with him in that WalkingWithFire thread.

Hiya :)

RBH, Pendaric, DMB, VoxRat, Lisa0315, Ray Moscow thanks for the welcome, good to see y'all again.

I'm getting that "Dr. Who" feeling like we've all done this before and may again.

...or I should just stay away from the Mango Fruitista from now on.

Damn record setting brain freeze for sure.

Yeah, that were me.

It is really good to see you, Jobar and Puck here in one place.

I suppose Ladyshea and Frank are still hanging with FF?

They should all receive one of Jobar's special Wonka admittance tickets into the secular cafe.

Hope y'all are doing well.

You know what...we should consider a Katrina reunion some day soon.

Hey ya, sweets. How goes it?

It goes just fine, Puck.

I quit Gulfport PD back in 07 and am now in Biloxi as a fighter of all things evil.

Not as far to drive and better situation all round.

How've you been?

Hi, Ronin:)

Good to see you here.

How is the recovery of Biloxi going, after its hurricane encounter?

Hi, Ronin:)

David

Biloxi is sitting pretty for the most part, praise be to gambling, the creative arts and rock and roll.

Then it gets worse as you move west through Gulfport, Long Beach, Pass Christian, Bay St. Louis, Waveland...all the way into New Orleans (many areas still look untouched by any recovery efforts).

Here is a video tribute I put together at the first year anniversary for my many friends like Jobar, diana, Puck, Rayven, Ladyshea, Frankie, Fred Edwords, Roy Speckhardt, Annie, Petra, Molly Mac, Joe Zamecki, Blair Scott, Margaret Downey and others from the intertoob who provided much needed moral support, time, effort, supplies and/or financial resources to rebuild my own home and the greater community.

I really never can thank them enough, they will always be my personal heroes.

A Tribute (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sPy4EqQcUAw)

We're still working on it, David B, we're getting there.

If you think this is something, you should wait for Boro Nut and the jello wrestlers.

Hah. Mine was at least 4 pages, but then again I was gone for almost a year. Keep going :)

Ronin, now that there's somewhere a bit quieter to hang out I hope that we get to have another conversation about law enforcement and where it has to cross over into social work at times. There are parts about working with homeless people that no one else really understands but cops and I really appreciated your perspective.

I think it is some of the most difficult work that there is because quite a bit is a result of mental health issues, drug addiction and some is sheer, frustrating apathy and entitlement.

I'm not certain where we left off last, but please start a thread and we can share our experiences and views again.

Here is something our group was working on last month here in Pass Christian (not as a cop, but as a human being who is trying to help):

Radiothon for the homeless (http://humanism.meetup.com/164/messages/boards/thread/6311071)

I met some really nice people that night and witnessed firsthand that the need for such activism and awareness is real.

One couple I met and shared time with is fighting for the basic right to keep their "cottage" on their own land. He is in the military and has served his country well while she has medical issues that need tending. The aren't looking for a "handout", they are looking to keep their home on their property and are just not able to keep solvent while fighting these assorted battles.
