Not really my thing. But if enough people are interested, perhaps we can set up a Games subforum somewhere (perhaps in Misc. Discussion or the Lounge). I'd have to consult with the other admins though.

I have only played once myself, and that was with folks like Halii and Damien. The fomer cheated, and the latter was a sore loser.

Anyway, we will play a very simple game and it will be explained. It is not hard and tons of fun. N00bs are VERY welcome, and no, I am not being fascicious.

If you do not want to play, you can sign up as an observer. There is usually a separate peanut gallery thread for non-participants. Either way, you are welcome.

Well, it goes something like this.

There are two teams: The Townies (majority) and The Mafia (minority) No one knows who is who. The Townies try to guess who is in the mafia and kill them. Those in the mafia try to take out townies.

It is a bit more complex than that, but here is a good basic article from Wikipedia.

Thanks for the wiki link (though I got redirected and eventually found it at Mafia (party game)), so now at least I know what it is.

I think that I'll just watch this time. I've spent enough time trying to figure out who is on which side with all the crap that went on during the past year and I don't want to do it for fun yet.

Generally, day starts at 10am EST and night starts at 7pm EST. How will that work for you? We can prolly adjust that if we need to.

Then, morning would be 2pm for you, and evening would be 11pm. We could back it up to 9am and 6pm which for you would be 1pm and 10 pm.

I'm about most of the time, but I'm not going to be able to guarantee to be there precisely on the dot every time - I don't see how anyone could.

Well, the most important times are right before the morning ends and right before the night ends. That is why I am thinking moving the times back a little will be helpful.

Not sure if this is the right place to put this. I'm starting up a mafia game (http://talkrational.org/showthread.php?t=14362) next week at TR. It will be based on Ursula LeGuin's novel The Dispossessed.

I'm not much for Mafia- never played it- but if I had more time I'd sign on for that one. It's one of my favorite novels.

But between running this board and my burgeoning work load (always happens in spring) I won't have time, unfortunately.

One of my favorite novels, too, though the conflict may be a little subtle for mafia. games. I'm having a lot of fun planning it. And I hope I get it fairly well balanced. I may have to find an expert who doesn't want to play this time and ask some questions.
