"All I'm sayin' is, we're going to fuck shit up in the Smoky mountains!"
Please give your age when replying. Someone saying the above, is saying what exactly?

Sounds to me like someone is out to cause trouble. Vandalism or arson maybe?
I'm 42, but if this is in reference to something that happened a while back, maybe I should also note I only moved to the US when I was 25.

Almost 39. And I'd say someone was getting ready to indulge a little bit of the ultraviolence.

Well... at first it sounds like they are gonna wreak havoc. It could also could mean that they are going to have sex with critters in the Smokey mountains.

Out of context it would either sound like someone is making a threat to the smoky mountains as in "we intend to destroy something there" or speaking in a more generic human we as in "we're going to fuck shit up if we go in and strip mine". I would also think that they needed to work on their vocabulary and grammar a bit.
I'm 49.

Yeah, at age 46 I had the same impression of intended violence and destruction. A younger teacher said it sounded like "we're going to get fucked up", and he strongly distrusts the student who posted this tidbit on Facebook.
Several students are now telling me that to a 17 yr old, it means "we're going to be hardcore and have a kickass good time". I'd like to hear from someone under 25 to see if they agree with that interpretation.

It could be read like that...or like this : We are going to fuck shit ...up in the Smokey mountains.
But really I would think they meant to cause trouble, wreck stuff.
I don't get your teacher's meaning at all... and I'm around a lot of people in their 20s. they don't talk like that.

54. My first thought was the current way to say we are going to party (hard core, as opposed to singing around the campfire) this weekend. Second thought was, it depends on who the kids are, and do they have access to guns? There's a lot of open space in the Smokey's and city kids seem to think the locals don't count for anything, and they get out of control. I've seen them threaten old ladies for telling them to shut the hell up at 3 am.
So yeah, depends on the kid.

"All I'm sayin' is, we're going to fuck shit up in the Smoky mountains!"
39, and this means that they're going to cause trouble -- property damage, probably, though damage to people can't be ruled out.
Edited: I suppose an alternative meaning could be that the person was looking forward to a wild weekend of sex, but now is being dragooned along with everyone to the Smoky Mountains and feels that there will be a lack of decent sex partners.

Hey, Gooch's Dad, long time no see.
I'll be in the Smoky Mountains in a few weeks (yes, I'll post pix).
Pass it on and let me know what whomever said the original statement thinks that means as well.

No idea whatsoever. And I am 69 and British, a double handicap when it comes to working out this kind of thing.

"All I'm sayin' is, we're going to fuck shit up in the Smoky mountains!"
"We are traveling to the Smoky Mountains, where I expect we will have a lot of fun, and nothing else needs to be said on this matter."
(implies the fun will be raucous, probably including inebriation)

EDIT: I did not read the replies before posting. Now that I have I see many seem to think the phrase "fuck shit up" expresses an intent to vandalize. I want to stress than when I express a desire to "fuck some shit up," this is not what I mean. Although smashing or destroying something is an act of "fucking shit up," so is having a wild party with little to no destruction of property (not counting a mess).

I've never heard "we're going to fuck shit up" being synonymous with just having a wild party or somesuch.
It has always been used contextually as a precursor to causing damage.
Now, "we're going to get fucked up as shit" is entirely different and not consistent with the thread quote.
I think that regardless of age it is a stretch to presume "party" over "vandalism".
They are "probably" going to fuck shit up in the Smoky Mountains, in my view.

It's not something I've ever tried to hide.
A thread entitled 'how old are you' would probably get fewer replies and more equivocation than this one did. Not that I actually doubted Gooch's Dad's intent, I was just having a bit of a dig :)
To actually answer the OP, I think that most likely it's simply very sloppy use of language, where the kid in question knows that anyone whose opinion he cares about would know exactly what kind of behaviour he was talking about anyway.

They would be going up there to have a hellraising grand party time.
Could be anything from dancing and/or screwing their asses off all night, massive drinking/feasting/partying, whatever but the point of the phrase would be to indicate FUN IN SERIOUS EXCESS.
Similar phrasing occurs when someone says something like, "I'm gonna fuck me up some serious tacos." They mean they will be obtaining or making a huge plate of the things with as many ingredients as you can stand and greedily devouring it all.
Sorry not giving its age. It has grown spawn if that helps. ;)

I always trek Cade's Cove, especially the falls (about five miles to and from).
Walden's is a must for the horse trails as well and Seviersville for the caves.
We should arrange a meet one year.
I'll treat you to the pepper sauce of your choice in town!

Thanks for all the replies. As I thought, those who are younger are more open to the idea that it might mean "harmless fun, but done with a helluva lot of energy".
I asked, because one of the kids in my Smoky's backpacking trip posted that exact phrase on our Facebook group. When I mentioned it to other teachers, including one in her late 20's, they ALL thought it meant "get high on pot". Except for one teacher who had no idea, and he is in his late 50's.
Another of the group came to talk to me and explain to me that for their generation, it simply means "get hardcore". I see zero uses of the phrase in this sense, when using my google-fu. But I'm willling to give them the benefit of the doubt.
We had a bad incident on last year's trip, with someone being caught using pot. I wasn't on the trip, but it nearly ended up in a cancellation of all future Smoky's backpacking trips.
I'm still hoping the trip will turn out to be fun and harmless. I don't think that pot use is horrible, per se, but I do NOT want any of my students taking any pot with them on this trip. It completely goes against the whole idea of backpacking in the Smoky Mtns.
FYI, we'll be leaving from Twentymile and spending a couple of days on the AT. We're not likely to go near Cade's Cove, it's way too popular in late April.

I beg to differ on that one. Sharing a joint at the end of a hike around a camp fire seems a rather nice idea. And for the record, I don't smoke it.
That being said, tell them you are bringing in a drug sniffing dog just before the bus is loaded to leave, and anyone caught with contraband will not be going. You don't have to really do it, just the threat ought to curb them.

Great. The parents of the kid who posted that has emailed me, and they find the accusation "hurtful and untrue". So I'll call them tonight, and see how they manage to put a positive spin on their son posting such a stupid message, especially in light of the fact that one of his Facebook friends is "Chronic Blunt" from Jamaica. Chronic Blunt's picture, of course, is of a huge joint.
I'm getting closer and closer to just canceling the whole thing. It will piss off a lot of people, but I don't see why I have to put up with this shit.

If you post a message saying you are "going to fuck shit up" on a School sanctioned resource of any sort, the very best that you have going for you is that are a stupid fucking moron. Ban him from the trip.
