Mark Zuckerberg, the chief executive and co-founder of Facebook, is facing a police investigation for blasphemy in Pakistan, after the social networking site was last month deemed to be carrying material offensive to Muslims.

The maximum penalty for blasphemy in Pakistan is life imprisonment or death. Mr Zuckerberg is unlikely to ever be extradited to Pakistan to face the charges.

Police in the Punjab province confirmed yesterday that they had initiated formal proceedings against the owner of Facebook.

I want to see what the Pakistani government have to say about this...

eta: Next week, the founders of goggle are in hot trouble in Pakistan for 'image search', as they've not banned everything on the internet that might offend delicate Muslim sensibilities.

In this, it does seem to be a case of the lunatics running the asylum.

A spork is plastic, therefore you cannot indulge in a sexual fetish with Pakistan using one that is rusted.

well, this is going to really screw up Mark Zuckerberg's plans to take his next family vacation in Pakistan.

Just kidding. No one wants to take a vacation in any country ending with "stan". Apparently, it's a post fix meaning "full or raging religious/tribal lunatics".

Doesn't matter. Pakistan's ass is so tight you could not engage in sexual activity with it using a spork anyway, stainless steel or no. It's sphincter is so tight once it closes nothing goes in or out. Wish its border with Afghanistan was as tight as its asshole.

How do you think it got the money to build nuclear weapons with?

It shoved tons of coal up its butt, and being so tight and the pressure level so high, it had diamonds to sell in a few days!
:rolleyes::p:D

Now that we solved that issue tell me, if Russia were to attack Turkey from the rear would Greece come and help?

BLASPHEMY hunters in Pakistan are to beginning to monitor seven major websites, including Google and Yahoo, for content it deems offensive to Muslims.

According to the BBC, YouTube, Amazon, MSN, Hotmail and Bing will also come under scrutiny, while 17 less well-known sites will be blocked.

Crap like this really pisses me off! If it's offensive, don't look at it. What kind of prophet is mohammand and what kind of deity do they worship, whose ego is too fragile to handle rejection? Where do they get off, dictating what the rest of the world can say and do??

*end of rant*

Heh...Yeah, I'm sure that the Zuckerbergs were so looking forward to hanging with all the other filthy rich vacationing in Pakistan. Like the bin Ladens.

And, I must disagree with your assessment. I wanted to, and did, take a vacation to the land of 'stans'. I passed through Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan as part of an 'adventure tour' of the Silk Roads. And, I regularly visit and vacation in Canuckistan. The 'stan' merely means 'land of'; e.g., Afghanistan is the 'land of the Afghans' and so on.

Muslims sometimes seem excessively thin-skinned. Consider Sudanese teddy bear blasphemy case - as a result of naming it Mohammed. That's such a common Muslim male name that I find it very surprising.

ETA: -stan means "place of" or "land" in Persian. -stan discusses it and its numerous cognates, like English "stand", German "Stadt" ("city"), Latin "status" and Greek "stasis" ("standing still"), etc.

is it that they are thick skinned, or that some of them feel the need to stamp on anything that they perceived to possibly have caused offence, lest it catch on?
