I think the Telegraph are a little behind on this story, it first broke in May 2009.
Although I think the original article does mention he's been 'catching ducks' for three years now, so good on him for keeping it up :)

Just how come a duck would choose such a place?

In the wild, mallards often nest in (relatively low) tree branches. The ducklings are light and small enough that they can easily survive the fall into grass and leaves that make up the ground in a forested area.

Concrete might be a bit hard on the landing, though.
