I've heard a few theories on this but probably mostly conjecture on the part of those commenting...chances are I'm just going to do the same!

I think younger men feel that older women have the confidence to know what they want in life and more inclined to honesty rather than "game playing". Maturity can be sexy...

Particularly in recent years there has been the rise of the so called "cougar" (or the even less romantically entitled MILF...) which has been popularised in the media through Sex and the City, Cougar Town, etc.

I know back in the days when I actually qualified as a younger man (yes, I'm getting on a bit these days) my peers frequently suggested (rather unkindly) that older women would be more receptive to the advances of a younger man. There was also the frequently presented theory that older women were "more experienced". I think this was just guys who had watched The Graduate and wished it was them with Anne Bankcroft!

Personally speaking, there are a lot of confidently sexy older women out there who have become comfortable in their own skin, are aware that true sensuality and allure goes far beyond trying maintain a supermodel figure and using botox/surgery etc to try to maintain their youth.

Take actresses such as Honor Blackman, Joanna Lumley and the many others who have proved that being sexy is more than just a young thing.

2. Because when Women cease to be handsome, they study to be good. To maintain their Influence over Men, they supply the Diminution of Beauty by an Augmentation of Utility. They learn to do a 1000 Services small and great, and are the most tender and useful of all Friends when you are sick. Thus they continue amiable. And hence there is hardly such a thing to be found as an old Woman who is not a good Woman.

3. Because there is no hazard of Children, which irregularly produc’d may be attended with much Inconvenience.

4. Because thro’ more Experience, they are more prudent and discreet in conducting an Intrigue to prevent Suspicion. The Commerce with them is therefore safer with regard to your Reputation. And with regard to theirs, if the Affair should happen to be known, considerate People might be rather inclin’d to excuse an old Woman who would kindly take care of a young Man, form his Manners by her good Counsels, and prevent his ruining his Health and Fortune among mercenary Prostitutes.

5. Because in every Animal that walks upright, the Deficiency of the Fluids that fill the Muscles appears first in the highest Part: The Face first grows lank and wrinkled; then the Neck; then the Breast and Arms; the lower Parts continuing to the last as plump as ever: So that covering all above with a Basket, and regarding only what is below the Girdle, it is impossible of two Women to know an old from a young one. Ohhhhhh! I've always appreciated older men.... but, if I may "wish" I'd like to try on a young one for size (no pun intended) because I don't believe that I have EVER dated with a boy or man younger than me. Not that I was on the market very long.
