Default HELLO EVERYONE!!!

Hi everyone,

Like a number of people here apparently, I have taken part in other forums only to be frustrated with the constant god talk. I found it to be an exercise in futility but was painfully aware I was greatly out numbered. My interests at present include physics, Philosophy and general systems theory which I find all encompassing. I am most happy to be here, in secular good company.

Welcome, Hiram.

There's a lot of talk about gods here too, but it tends to be of the less credulous kind....and our theists are generally welcome.

Hi Hiram, good to see you here.

We do have some god talk, but that is pretty much confined to the Religion forum, and the Smoking Section.

Have you looked at our mission statement etc yet?

http://www.secularcafe.org/showthread.php?t=544

As far as god talk goes the relevant bit is

Quote:
Are religious people welcome here?

Certainly! And all members are free to put forward reasons why people should accept their beliefs, religious or otherwise. But be forewarned that any beliefs whatsoever may be subject to critical examination. While we believe in extending respect to people, the same does not necessarily apply to their ideas. Religious members have the same privileges as any other member. Proselytizing, however, will be confined to the Smoking Section.
No need to go there if you don't want - plenty else to talk about here

David

Thank you everyone for the warm welcome. As far as the god talk goes I really do have quite a bit of tolerance in that area, but, found myself overwhelmed not by the arguments but by the sheer number of people who wanted to take the dialogues in that direction.

Again thank you for the warm welcome. Hiram

Back in 19mumbletymumble, I graduated from Ga. Tech with a BS in Applied Physics, and an undeclared minor in Philosophy.

I think there's a good chance you'll enjoy the Cafe.

Howdy and welcome Hiram. Pull up a chair, have another cuppa, and dive right in. Have fun, be serious, or both at once.

Well...there's lots of god talk - just most of it pointing out the lack of existence of same. There's no (real) coffee
